Hopi Ear Candles

(Thermal-Auricular Therapy)

Ear candling is a very ancient tradition stretching back for centuries when folk healers all over the world used the therapy in some form or another.  The North American Hopi Indians used ear candles as part of a spiritual and physical cleansing ritual.

The candles used in my treatments are hollow tubes approximately 12 inches long, made from organic linen and beeswax, and impregnated with herbs and essential oils such as lavender, sage and St John’s Wort.  Vegan candles are available which use a vegetable based oil instead of beeswax in their make-up.

Ear candling is a gentle and effective treatment for conditions of the head, ear, nose and throat.  This is a relaxing and calming treatment, incorporating a relaxing facial drainage massage, for the relief of:

  • Sinusitis
  • Rhinitis
  • Headaches/migraine
  • Congestion
  • Excessive ear wax
  • Ear pressure
  • Hay fever
  • Tinnitus
  • Vertigo
  • Sore throat

The ear candling treatment

First of all you  lie on your right side and the left ear is treated.  One end of the candle is inserted gently into your ear and the other end is lit.  The candle burns slowly for 10-15 minutes and produces a slight warmth.  You may hear a little crackling sound as the candle burns, and the overall sensation is one of comfort and relaxation.  After treating the right ear in the same way, the treatment is completed with a gentle facial drainage massage.

Ear candling is not advisable if you are suffering from any of the following:

  • Perforated ear drum
  • Grommets
  • An ear infection
  • Recent dental work which is still sore
  • Epilepsy

Please phone for advice before booking your Hopi Ear Candling treatment if you are suffering, or have suffered from any of these conditions.
